Welcome to the latest “Wise Up!” Q+A series, featuring Seki Shiwoku, our spring intern at the Wise Public Relations SF office.

The “Wise Up!" Q+A series features insightful interviews with innovators, disruptors, game-changers and leaders across industries that we work with here at Wise Public Relations, could be a client, reporter, influencers, vendor, partner, etc, as well as interviews with our staff. We'll ask some questions as it pertains to the individual's line of work, and then a few 'softball' questions on the individual's interest outside of work, like travel, food, music, books, etc.

Check out Seki’s responses and enjoy!

Where do you attend school and what are you studying?

I attend San Francisco State University. I am studying Journalism with a minor in Health Education.

What are you hoping to gain from this internship?

I am hoping to gain experience and navigate the PR world, as well as work with talented and inspiring folks.

Since starting your internship, what, if anything, has changed about your perception of PR?

Nothing has really changed, it’s still all about the client.

Why PR?

Why not PR? I like solving problems, and PR keeps me on my toes. It’s refreshing, and if done well can provide a great sense of achievement.

If you could change/fix one thing about the PR industry what would it be?

I would change the way journalists view the PR industry. I'd try and create more relationships with journalists and editors of various publications.

In your opinion, what's been the biggest PR crisis this year?

Donald Trump, by far, has been the biggest PR crisis.

What are some of your favorite news media outlets?

Some of my favorite news media outlets include Al Jazeera, The Guardian, SF Chronicle, and Buzzfeed.

What's the most recent book you read?

I recently reread Tuesdays with Morrie. This is one of my favorite books. It’s a story of a man who spends time with his old professor in his last months. I learned the importance of time, communication, and love from this book, definitely recommend every person read it.

If you can invite three famous people in history to dinner, who would they be?

Kanye West - he’s so outrageous, awaiting his next comment or rant would have everyone on the edge of their seats; Zach Galifianakis - he’s hilarious, love his humor and sarcasm. Sarcasm is everything for me; Adele, I love her music. I love her as a person, she seems like a fun gal to have drinks and dinner with.

Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 15 years?

Working successfully in PR and freelancing as a women’s health/reproductive rights journalist.
